Here at Rainy City Kids we are settling into our Christmas groove. One of our favourite things about this time of year is the abundance of beautiful plays for children. At other times you might expect to see challenging, thought-provoking and even gross-out humour in children’s theatre, at Christmas you are guaranteed pure magic.
The Bear is Waterside’s Christmas play and it looks just gorgeous. It is based on the book by Raymond Briggs (who also wrote the Snowman, enough said) and features the irrepressible Tilly and an enormous snowy white bear played, thank goodness, by a very impressive puppet.
One of my favourite things is that they are doing “slumber showings”. Anyone attending a showing that starts at 6pm can attend in their pyjamas and bring along a teddy (I’m assuming this is meant to be kids only though hey if you fancy it, go for it I say). Milk and cookies will be available to buy on the night. Not only is this wildly exciting for kids but it also means you can transfer any sleepyheads straight to bed when they get home.
With dazzling puppetry, delicious music, dreamy storytelling, and dozens of laughs, The Bear is an unforgettable experience for the whole family and a perfect introduction to theatre. So come join Tilly and her great big white friend on a wild and magical adventure.
This heart-warming and humorous wintry tale is brought to you by Pins and Needles – the team behind the hugely successful Father Christmas – who are delighted to be bringing to life another of Raymond Briggs’ much-loved storybooks. Recommended age: 3-11 years.
We are giving away one family ticket to the 7pm showing on 7 December 2017.
